Trafford PCT has today confirmed that its chief executive, Sheena Cumiskey, has been appointed as the new chief executive at Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
The PCT chairman, Terry Atherton, says that the search is now on to find a successor to lead the NHS in the borough.
He explained: “The Board and I are determined that we attract an equally high calibre candidate to fill the post. The past three years has been a time of exceptional growth and success for the PCT and Sheena has brought a unique perspective and approach to ensuring this.
“It is important that we now start the process to attract a high quality leader to ensure that our local population continues to benefit from the work we have started."
Mrs Cumiskey originally entered the NHS as a graduate trainee, working firstly at Crewe Health Authority and then at Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool. She then went on to hold a variety of middle and senior management positions covering business planning, performance and corporate affairs at Mersey Regional Health Authority and the Royal Liverpool University Hospitals.
Subsequently she became Assistant Chief Executive at the NHS Executive (North West Regional Office) in 1993 before taking up her first Chief Executive post in 1995 at Halton General Hospital. She then moved on to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust in 1999 before joining Trafford PCT in 2006.
Mrs Cumiskey leaves the PCT after almost three years at the helm.
She said: “I am moving on but after a very hard decision. Ultimately, this is a rare opportunity but, it is also an opportunity that I have been relishing since entering the NHS some 26 years ago. I have immensely enjoyed my time in Trafford but I know that we have built a very capable team and I take great comfort in the team effort we have developed to ensure our successes."
