NHS Trafford gives patients chance to have their say on health services

NHS Trafford is establishing a patient congress as part of its major redesign of health services to give local people the chance to have their say and influence improvements.

Representatives of interest groups, including community and voluntary organisations with a general interest in local health services are invited to take part in the congress. People with experience in six key areas of care are also invited to come along: end of life care; ear, nose and throat (ENT); urgent care; diabetes; mental health and respiratory disease.

The first congress meeting will take place in Sale on the evening of 7 July, where senior doctors and nurses will be informing attendees about the plans to redesign the borough’s healthcare system, as well as giving an update on what has been achieved so far and outlining the work planned for the coming year.  Members of the congress will then have the opportunity to share their views about the plans.

The congress is another move towards the NHS in Trafford working closely with patients and carers to investigate how health services can be integrated so that they work more effectively. Patients and carers have already signed up to join ‘clinical panels’ that will review the six areas of care. The patient congress will enable a larger number of people to be involved and will give people an opportunity to discuss ideas on how they can support the work of the panels.

The aim is for the congress to meet regularly over the next year, but members may also be invited to attend other smaller meetings or events, or take part in other activities linked to one of the six areas of care.

Members of the public who have experience or interest in these areas and who would like to be involved in the congress should contact NHS Trafford’s engagement team on 0161 873 9505 to book a place at the event.
