Olympic medallist Darren Campbell visited Sale West recently to encourage residents in his home town to make a Change 4 Life by eating more fruit and vegetables.
Darren, who won Gold in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, was supporting the Change 4 Life convenience store project that is running in New Manor Supermarket on Lingfield Avenue, which is managed by his uncle, Keith Campbell.
The project, which is run jointly between NHS Trafford and Trafford Council, aims to increase the availability of fruit and vegetables in convenience stores, and in turn, reduce health inequalities in the area. The store was chosen by NHS Trafford’s health improvement team to take part because it has previously had low sales of fruit and vegetables.
Marie Price, health improvement officer, commented: “We were thrilled that Darren could help us promote the project. He’s a great role model for the residents in this area and shows just what can be achieved if you eat well and live an active lifestyle. We hope having the fruit and veg in an eye-catching stand will encourage people to buy fresh produce alongside their regular shop.”
