Bladder and bowel service

The bladder and bowel team is based at The Delamere Centre, Stretford. It offers specialised assessments for people with bladder and/or bowel problems (problems can relate to a person’s inability to control their urination and bowel function. This may or may not involve incontinence). The team's aim is to proactively treat bladder and/or bowel dysfunction and offer patients nurse-led, specialised assessment, and pathways to further specialist care where appropriate.

The role of the nurses within the team is to assess, diagnose, treat or manage the symptoms as set within NICE guidance. They work closely with local GPs, gynaecologists and urologists. The main clinical work is undertaken in the nurse-led clinics in Trafford but, where an individual is housebound, a home visit can be arranged.

The team aims to see all new referrals within three weeks. They also work within Trafford General Hospital in the multidisciplinary urogynaecology clinic and, aside from this, provide advice to nursing staff at Trafford General Hospital for their inpatient care. The team provides educational programmes to nursing staff in Trafford Provider Services and Trafford General Hospital, and other agencies by agreement developing and ensuring competency amongst nursing staff.
