This physiotherapy service cares mainly for people who have had myocardial infarction (a heart attack) or heart surgery.
The team runs cardiac rehabilitation classes in the gym at Trafford General Hospital. Patients are mainly referred by cardiac rehabilitation nurses working on the wards at Trafford General Hospital, but some patients are referred from Wythenshawe Hospital or Manchester Royal infirmary.
People referred to the service have problems with their joints, bones, muscles, tendons and nerves. They are individually assessed by a physiotherapist or podiatrist, who then formulates a treatment plan with them, which may include mobilisations, electrotherapy (including ultrasound) or an exercise group. All patients will have exercises to work on at home to help restore function and quality of life.
Teams are based at Trafford General and Altrincham General hospitals. Access to the service is via referral from your GP or hospital consultant.
The team provides treatment for who require a hospital stay, and for some patients who have just had surgery (post-operative). The post-operative patients treated usually come from the north of the borough; people who live in the south of the borough go to the musculoskeletal (MSK) service at Altrincham General Hospital.
The team's focus is on using physiotherapy to help people who have problems associated with their breathing. It mainly provide care for hospital patients in intensive care, the high dependency unit, the surgical unit and medical wards.
The team offers mainly an inpatient service for patients admitted to Trafford General Hospital. However, it also runs an on-call service provided for the hospital which operates 365 days per year and at weekends and bank holidays.
A small team which is dedicated to the care of ante-and post-natal women (women who are having or have just had their babies). The team also works with men and women with continence (bladder and bowel control) problems.
The team works at both Trafford General Hospital and Altrincham General Hospital in the outpatient department, as well as on the wards at Trafford General Hospital.
