Physiotherapy

Cardiac rehabilitation (physiotherapy component)

This physiotherapy service cares mainly for people who have had myocardial infarction (a heart attack) or heart surgery.

The team runs cardiac rehabilitation classes in the gym at Trafford General Hospital. Patients are mainly referred by cardiac rehabilitation nurses working on the wards at Trafford General Hospital, but some patients are referred from Wythenshawe Hospital or Manchester Royal infirmary.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) outpatient team

People referred to the service have problems with their joints, bones, muscles, tendons and nerves. They are individually assessed by a physiotherapist or podiatrist, who then formulates a treatment plan with them, which may include mobilisations, electrotherapy (including ultrasound) or an exercise group. All patients will have exercises to work on at home to help restore function and quality of life.

Teams are based at Trafford General and Altrincham General hospitals.  Access to the service is via referral from your GP or hospital consultant.

The team provides treatment for who require a hospital stay, and for some patients who have just had surgery (post-operative). The post-operative patients treated usually come from the north of the borough; people who live in the south of the borough go to the musculoskeletal (MSK) service at Altrincham General Hospital.
