When most people encounter the NHS, it will be through an appointment with their GP (General Practitioner). GPs are the first point of call for many people when they are feeling unwell, and because they see patients so frequently throughout their lives, they tend to know them very well. They often act as a referrer, signposting patients on to the place where they can receive care or treatment for their condition.

The kind of problems that your GP practice, including the practice nurse, can help you with include:

  • Repeat or new prescriptions
  • Childhood vaccinations
  • Referrals to hospital or other services for a wide range of ailments
  • Help with mental health problems
  • Blood tests, including sexual health tests
  • Contraceptive services
  • Some minor surgery

Many GP practices in Trafford offer extended opening hours, making it easier for patients who work to get an appointment.
