Hello, I'm Michel Le-Straad, designated nurse for vulnerable adults and clinical lead for Safeguarding Adults in Trafford.
I work across the Trafford health economy and I am employed by NHS Trafford. On these web pages you will find information about all aspects of Safeguarding Adults, including:
What is ‘Safeguarding Adults’ and why is it important to delivering health care?
Health services have a duty to safeguard all patients but provide additional measures for patients who are less able to protect themselves from harm or abuse.
Safeguarding adults covers a range of activity from prevention through to multi agency responses where harm and abuse occurs.
Multi agency procedures apply where there is concern of harm, crime, neglect or abuse to a patient defined as ‘vulnerable’.
Who is a vulnerable adult? A vulnerable adult is a person aged 18 years or older who is or maybe unable to take care of him or herself, or unable to protect him or herself against harm, crime, neglect or abuse. Safeguarding adults is an integral part of patient care. Duties to safeguard patients are required by professional regulators, service regulators and supported in law. About our approach in Trafford The NHS is committed to preventing harm and abuse of vulnerable adults. Where we suspect or identify that harm, crime, neglect or abuse is happening, we will respond quickly to protect the person and those around them. NHS organisations across Trafford are working together to improve our understanding of abuse and exploring at ways to prevent it. No single agency can deal with safeguarding vulnerable adults alone. We work closely with our partners in the Independent Sector, Care Quality Commission, Greater Manchester Police and Trafford Council to ensure we have a joined up, robust approach to Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults.
