Trafford's Clinical Commissioning Group
Background
Trafford Primary Care Trust (PCT) was formed on 1 October 2006, following the merger of Trafford North and Trafford South PCTs.
During this time, two Practice Based Commissioning (PBC) clusters functioned – one for the north and one for the south of the borough. Once there was only one PCT for the area, and whilst the two PBC clusters functioned separately, it was recognised that there were a number of shared agendas.
In April 2010, GPs in the two PBC clusters were consulted with on their thoughts around setting up a joint GP consortium.
Following a short period where it operated as one cluster in shadow form alongside Trafford North PBC and Trafford South PBC, elections for the Trafford Commissioning Consortium (TCC) board took place. TCC was formally established in September 2010.
At that time, the TCC board also consulted with its member practices and gained a mandate to set up GP consortium in line with the NHS White Paper, which was published in July 2010.
TCC was awarded Government ‘pathfinder’ status in December 2010, and is now helping to develop the concept of GP commissioning as part of the NHS reforms, with the set up of a shadow board as Trafford's clinical commissioning group (CCG).
